Youanmite CWA and Moira Shire Council join forces to celebrate International Women’s Day
The Youanmite Country Women’s Association joined forces with Moira Shire Council to host an afternoon tea at the Youanmite Hall on Wednesday, March 8 as part of the organisation’s International Women’s Day celebrations.
The day is recognised globally as a way to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
To celebrate, Youanmite CWA members gathered together for a sumptuous afternoon tea.
Carol Cahill was one of the attendees at the event.
She said it was a great chance to get together as a community and that the event was well attended.
“They had a real good turnout and the afternoon tea was great,” she said.
Entertainment for the event was provided by Ukaladies, a band made up of female residents from the area who play the ukulele.
According to Youanmite CWA secretary June Field, their presence has always been a highlight.
Their popularity was affirmed by Ms Cahill, who said the band struck up a fantastic tune, which got people dancing.
“They had a sing-along with well known old songs, and some of the audience got up to have a dance,” she said.
Council manager marketing, communication and advocacy Scott William said council was always happy to support causes such as CWA International Woman’s Day events.
“We are honoured to be a part of International Women’s Day and to support the CWAs across the shire run these fantastic events,” he said.
“The events we have attended so far in Youanmite and Numurkah have been well attended and embraced, with some great speakers, which is a testament to not only the great work of the CWA but all the amazing women in these towns.”
The Cobram Nocturnal CWA is holding its own International Women’s Day luncheon on Saturday, March 18.
