It’s not often the News sports journalists break political stories ahead of deputy editor Max Stainkamph, but former Croweater Zac Standish had the election scoop of the weekend when he twitted (I think that’s what the young ones do these days) that the “region needs to lift”.
The Zac attack recognised that the politicians can talk up the lack of a bypass all they like, but first, they need to address the lack of a democracy sausage around the Shepparton electorate on Saturday.
Standish’s fellow News hound Murray Silby was almost ready to go vegan after coming up blank at four polling booths — St Brendan’s, Mooroopna, Ardmona and Merrigum primary schools — before finally finding a couple of snags at Tatura Primary School.
Makes you wonder what our kids are being taught about democracy these days.
You can imagine young Murray’s ire was raised higher when St Brendan’s fired up the barbie some time after he left.
The ed still thinks Muzza’s travelling far and wide across the electorate was down to his work ethic, not his search for a tasty scorched casing containing blood, guts, organs and animal fat in bread.
Can the first member in parliament turn the lights on?
I know I’m going on about the bypass a bit today, but it was the first anniversary of the Shepparton Art Museum, SAM, recently.
Great. I love going to the cafe there and asking for a sausage in bread, but what about the lights out the front?
How can we build a bypass if we can’t even get the traffic lights turned on out the front that were built as part of the development.
Deputy Max tells me they have to do some work on the railway line first, but I think that might be the first job for our new state member Kim O’Keeffe.
Maybe the bypass won’t have any lights.
