Oddie dips the lid to Councillor Despi O’Connor from the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council for truly embracing Shepparton.
While social media was flooded with posts from the Australian Local Government Association Conference in Shepparton, Cr O’Connor opted to get away from the boring images of a conference stage.
Instead, she roamed the nearby Monash Park and took a sefie with nearly every Mooving Art cow.
“Who doesn’t love a cow?” she asked her followers.
At least the good folk down the peninsula got to see more than the inside of a function centre.
Looking for a job?
Oddie can’t drive anywhere without seeing job ads.
Watters Electrical has a flashing sign seeking sparkies, a school is advertising for teachers and support staff on a prominent sign on Wyndham St and out past the airport a sign has popped up seeking truck drivers.
A quick look online showed 130 jobs in the region in transport, logistics and manufacturing, 150 in trades and services, 106 in education and training, 200 in health, 83 in retail and 65 in hospitality.
In what has been a rough week for the economy, Oddie can’t help but think we’d be doing much better if we only had the workers.
Seeking a snack
Oddie has it on good authority that if you are stopping at a popular servo midway between Shepparton and Melbourne you should take a peek in the pie warmer.
Next to the pies you might find a new treat, a tortilla with baked beans and egg ready to go and bearing a very familiar Shepparton brand.
