Oddie | All about that race, ’bout that race, no treble

Familiar face appears

Oddie spoke recently about the appearances of corflutes spruiking Liberal candidate for Shepparton Cheryl Hammer and National candidate for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe, and how they heralded the coming of an election.

Now it seems the race is on in earnest, with incumbent independent Suzanna Sheed’s signage appearing in town.

With the state election set for late next month, the starter’s gun has most certainly sounded.

Speaking of races

Oddie is amazed by anyone who can start — and finish — a full marathon.

But Oddie is even more amazed when he knows exactly how much — or in this case, little — preparation went into the feat for a few of The News’ own.

The first whispers of a combined attempt to run the Melbourne Marathon came out of the sports desk a few months ago, but Oddie heard very little about any actual running happening until the week of the event.

Nevertheless, sports journalists Zac Standish, James Kleeman and Daniel Webb strode their way into the history books by finishing the full marathon on Sunday.

Oddie can tell you that there has not been much movement from them since.

In any weather you will see us with a grin

The sight of an ice-cream van is enough to put a smile on your dial on any occasion.

But Oddie did feel sorry for this Big Licks van spotted at Elmore Field Days by photographer Holly Daniel on Wednesday.

While it might have been good weather for ducks, our feathered friends don’t often partake in the delicacy that is soft serve ice-cream.
