Oddie | Beer and cricket: summer must be around the corner

By Oddie
Well protected: The Terminus Hotel.

Protect the right assets

Oddie was pleased to see the cellar was well protected when passing Shepparton’s Terminus Hotel during the flooding emergency — although we did note none of the entrances to the establishment were adorned with sandbags.

Logically, of course, the doors to the hotel are higher than the entrance to the cellar.

But Oddie is all for protecting beer before property in any emergency.

Report to grounds — and bring a snorkel

Oddie is reliably informed that in the face of impending rain a few weeks ago, the covers were fastened over the pitch at Princess Park in Shepparton.

With no reports of said covers washing up in any backyards of the region, the pitch must still remain ‘protected’ from inclement weather.

The floodwater is receding excruciatingly slowly at the venue but when it does, it will certainly be an interesting pitch report.

Speaking of cricket

How good have the Cricket Shepparton Team of the Century features been to read?

The sports desk is profiling all 30 cricketers on the shortlist for entry into the final team of 12 — to be announced on November 27 at the Team of the Century lunch.

Oddie is itching to get involved — and has gotten wind of a way that he can.

Blizzards Fine Jewellers has come to the party with the donation of a $300 voucher to the winner of a Pick the Team of the Century competition.

Look out for the full details over the coming week, but in essence you will be able to submit your own 12 names from the list of 30 that you think should make up the final squad — and the closest to selecting the actual team wins.

The profiles of the shortlisted cricketers can be found at sheppnews.com.au/sport/
