In this week’s episode of Digging Deeper, the News’ Nicola Ceccato sat down with Dr Ravi Bhat AM to chat about dementia in the lead up to Dementia Action Week from September 16 to 22.

Dr Ravi is the Divisional Clinical Director for Goulburn Valley Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service at GV Health and has done a lot of work in the field of dementia and psychiatry.

So much so, that he was awarded an Order of Australia in the King’s Birthday Honours last year for his work in psychiatry in the community.

Dr Ravi discusses what dementia is, what we do and don’t know about what causes it, some of the biggest misconceptions surrounding the disease and why it’s become so prevalent in the past few decades.

Listen below to hear what he had to say.
