A car allegedly being driven at high speed was involved in a crash in Shepparton on Saturday.
Police said a Holden Commodore allegedly travelling south on Wyndham St at high speed was involved in a crash at the Wyndham St and Wilmot Rd intersection on Saturday, December 16, at 5.15pm.
The driver, a man in his 40s from South Australia, allegedly attempted to squeeze the Commodore between two cars that stopped at the intersection on a red light, police said.
He allegedly hit one of the cars on the side, resulting in his car spinning out of control and hitting one of the intersection’s traffic light poles across the road, causing damage both to the car and traffic lights, which stopped working, police said.
In the lead-up to the crash, police said cameras caught the Commodore allegedly driving through two previous red lights on Wyndham St at both the Nixon St and Fryers St intersections.
The driver had only minor injuries, and the sole occupant of the car that was allegedly hit was not injured.
Traffic was diverted for a couple of hours following the incident, with traffic lights now functioning again.
The man driving the Commodore was on Sunday being processed by police for serious driving offences and other charges.
Police are appealing to the public for any CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident.
Anyone having any dashcam or CCTV footage travelling down Wyndham St between 5pm and 5.15pm on Saturday, December 16, has been urged to contact Senior Constable Bernard Cline on (03) 5820 5777.
