Police are appealing for witnesses to an alleged assault in Shepparton on May 31.

A Shepparton man was taken to hospital by ambulance with head injuries after the alleged assault on the corner of Wilmot Rd and Sanderson St.

Shepparton police Senior Constable Adam Ashley said the man was riding his bike between 8.45pm and 9.20pm when another man allegedly threatened him.

A bottle was allegedly used in the assault, which resulted in the victim needing stitches in his head, Sen Constable Ashley said.

A Shepparton man was spoken to by police a short time later and has been released pending further inquiries.
