Burnout leads to court for Shepparton man

A driver has been sentenced in court for improper use of a vehicle.

Police watched on as a P-plater did a burnout in front of them in a Shepparton street.

Jye Barker, 25, of Shepparton, was charged with improper use of a vehicle with a loss of traction, failure to display P-plates, and driving a prohibited vehicle while on a probationary licence.

The case was heard in his absence at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court.

The court was told Barker was stopped while driving a Holden Special Maloo south on Welsford St in Shepparton at 8.40pm on September 9, 2023.

Police had heard him screech his tyres for about five seconds and saw a large amount of smoke.

Police found that Barker, who was on a probationary driver’s licence, was not displaying his P-plates.

Magistrate Simon Zebrowski fined Barker $1000 and suspended his licence for two months.
