A man has faced court after police found a firearm, cannabis, and $2000 cash in his home.

Jason Scott, 43, of Shepparton, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to possessing cannabis, possessing a firearm and dealing with property suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Ethan Hamill said police found a gel blaster gun, $2000 cash, an Apple iPhone, a shopping bag with cannabis, two ziplock bags with cannabis, and a bag of seeds, among other goods during a search of his Shepparton home on December 1, 2023.

Scott told police he “didn’t know the seeds were in the cupboard” and he “bought the gel blaster years ago”, the court heard.

Scott’s defence solicitor said her client had a “limited criminal history” and had taken ownership by being “open and honest” with police by showing them where the cannabis was.

Scott had been medically prescribed cannabis for a back injury, but the WorkCover was too expensive, and that’s why he “veered into the illegal side”, the court heard.

Magistrate Amina Bhai fined Scott $2000.
