A man has been charged in relation to a robbery at a Byrneside service station, north of Tatura, last week.

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested a 35-year-old Tatura man in Tatura at about 1pm on Wednesday, September 4.

Police allege the man entered the service station on the Midland Hwy at about 4.45am on Friday, August 30 and demanded cash and goods before fleeing the scene on foot with $500 cash and 80 packets of cigarettes.

Police allege the man put his hand in his jacket pocket to appear as though he was concealing a firearm and told the attendant he had a firearm.

The man has been charged with robbery and common law assault and is expected to appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in December.
