A man stole copper pipes from a construction site at Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE, a court has heard.

Scott Anthony Reeves, 30, of Mooroopna, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to trespassing with intent to steal, theft, possessing tools for use in a burglary, possessing a controlled weapon, possessing methamphetamine, possessing cannabis and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Luke Lund told the court Reeves was seen entering a construction site at GOTAFE in Shepparton at 11.30pm on April 22 and cutting electrical wires inside a building.

When police found him hiding behind a bin in Fryers St, he was holding multiple bags containing copper pipes, copper wire and electrical wires worth $200, Leading Sen Constable Lund said.

He also had wire cutters, pliers, a shifter and tin snips on him, as well as a Stanley knife. A knife was also found in his backpack.

Reeves also had 4.05g of cannabis on him, as well as 6g of a mix of tobacco and cannabis.

He also had 0.67g of methamphetamines in a deal bag in his sock.

When interviewed by police, Reeves told them he did not go into any building and that the tools were to “fix his bike”, Leading Sen Constable Lund said.

He said his brother had asked him to carry the bags with the tools and pipe, Leading Sen Constable Lund said.

Reeves also told police he used the knife “for fishing” and that the drugs were for personal use, Leading Sen Constable Lund said.

Reeves was on bail at the time of the offences.

Magistrate Tara Hartnett noted the offences occurred in April and Reeves was placed on a community corrections order for other matters three months later.

Ms Hartnett sentenced Reeves to an 11-month supervision-only community corrections order to run alongside the other community corrections order he is already on.
