A driver was almost three times the legal alcohol limit when he crashed his car into a ditch, a court has heard.

David Stone, 21, of Grahamvale, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to drink driving.

Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Anna Hanlon told the court Stone had been driving along New Dookie Rd in Grahamvale on March 6 when he decided he was not going to drive and did a U-turn to go home.

However, in doing so, his vehicle ended up in a ditch at the side of the road.

The court heard the P-plater walked home, before going back to the scene with his mother.

Police found Stone at the scene sitting in his mother’s car.

When he was breath tested he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.146.

He was immediately banned from driving by police.

Representing himself in court, Stone said nothing had been damaged and there was “just a bit of mud”.

He also apologised for his behaviour.

Stone was fined $750 and ordered to pay $87.20 in court costs.

He was also disqualified from driving for 14 months — backdated to March 6 when his licence was taken off him.
