A man who sped off on police when they tried to pull him over in Kialla has copped a hefty fine in court.

Sujat Reza, 30, of Shepparton, was charged with failing to stop on police direction, failing to have proper control of a vehicle and speeding between 10km/h and 25km/h over the limit.

His matter was heard at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in his absence.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Luke Lund told the court police detected Reza driving at 93km/h in an 80km/h zone on Archer Rd, Kialla, between Adams Rd and Sanctuary Dve.

In Sanctuary Dve he “appeared to evade” police as he sped up above the 50km/h limit, Sen Constable Lund said.

The court was told Reza lost control of his car at the corner on Sanctuary Dve and Goulburn Valley Hwy, spinning the vehicle 180 degrees before driving off.

In sentencing Reza, magistrate Tara Hartnett said he had “significant” driving history that had come before the courts.

She fined him a total of $1500 on all charges.
