A case that has been unresolved since 2001 has finally been heard in court.

A 56-year-old man from the Sydney suburb of Campbelltown pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to possessing amphetamines and failing to answer bail.

Senior Constable Ethan Hamill said police found a pencil case with three film canisters filled with white powder in the Ford Prime Mover the man was driving on the Murray Valley Hwy at Strathmerton on June 26, 2001.

The man told the police it was speed, and it helped him wake up after having a sleep in the truck.

Representing himself in court, the man said it was a long time ago, and he did not want the charges to affect his current life.

The man said when he found out the matter was still outstanding, he thought, “something better be done about this”, and went to Cobram Police Station to “get it sorted”.

Magistrate Amina Bhai said it was good the man tried to get the charges resolved once he became aware of the matter and that he had not committed any further offences since.

The charges were dismissed.
