A man who was drug driving 20km/h over the speed limit has faced court.

Craig Moore, 49, from Shepparton, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to drug driving and speeding.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Ethan Hamill said Moore was driving at 100km/h in an 80km/h speed zone on Archer Rd in Kialla at about 10.05am on February 6, 2024, and he tested positive for cannabis.

When police asked Moore why he was driving with an illegal drug in his system he said “I haven’t got one”, and when asked why he was speeding, he said he was “not paying attention”, Sen Constable Hamill said.

Representing himself in court, Moore said his partner had bipolar disorder, and he smoked cannabis to “keep up with stress”.

Magistrate Simon Zebrowski told Moore “smoking cannabis is not consistent with driving” and it was “just a matter of time” before he lost his licence.

Moore was fined $500, and had been suspended from driving for six months since March 22 this year.
