An Avenel woman has been fined $300 after she was caught driving without a licence.

Taylor Jackson, 19, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to driving while suspended.

Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Fiona Kennedy told the court police stopped Jackson while she was driving without a licence in Livingstone St, Avenel, on September 30, last year.

Her licence was suspended at the time due to a traffic infringement for drug driving, Leading Sen Constable Kennedy said.

Jackson told police at the time that she knew her licence was suspended for six months but was “just waiting for a letter in the mail”.

Jackson’s solicitor Ian Michaelson told the court his client had a lot going on in her life at the time and had redirected her mail to her parent’s house and had not seen it.

“To her mind, it was an honest mistake,” he said.

Jackson was fined $300 and ordered to pay $84.40 in court costs.

No conviction was recorded.
