Footage of Benalla Rd armed robbery released

Investigators have released CCTV footage and images of two people they wish to speak to in relation to an armed robbery at a store on Benalla Rd, Shepparton last month.

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the incident at Benalla Rd Convenience and Tobacconist on Monday, September 30.

Footage shows two unknown men wearing black hoodies and balaclavas entering the store at about 9.40pm.

Police said investigators had been told one man was holding a firearm when he allegedly confronted two female shop attendants and demanded they fill a black duffel bag with cash.

Police allege a second man, armed with a knife, went behind the shop counter before the pair fled the scene with a substantial amount of cash and cigarettes.

The first man is described as being Caucasian, of medium build and about 170cm tall.

He was wearing a black hooded jumper with white writing on both arms and a white logo on the left side of his chest, a black balaclava, dark grey gloves, black pants and cream-coloured shoes with black tape around the middle.

The second man is described as having a solid build and wearing a black hooded jumper with a white logo on the right side of his chest, a dark grey face covering, dark grey gloves, black shoes and dark blue jeans.

The two attendants were not physically injured in the incident.

Shepparton Police Divisional Response Unit Sergeant Shaun-Maree Brock praised the behaviour of the shop attendants.

“It certainly shook our victims up a fair bit,” she said.

“What they (the victims did) was a credit to them.

“I can’t imagine being in that position.

“Our victim was fantastic. She held her composure.”

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Sgt Brock said police had investigated the incident and were now putting it out to the public to see if anyone had any information about it, or recognised the people involved.

“This level of violence is not acceptable in the community,” she said.
