Gun found on Shepparton residential block

Police have seized a gun found on a vacant block in a Shepparton residential area and arrested a man nearby.

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Shortis said police responded to a report of a dispute with an allegation of a man with a gun in McLean Crt at 6.15pm on Wednesday, May 11.

A man was arrested at the scene and a search uncovered the sawn-off shotgun on a nearby vacant block.

A 35-year-old Swan Hill man was charged with being a prohibited person possessing a firearm, possession ammunition, breach of an intervention order and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

He was remanded in custody in an appearance at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 12.

He will appear again at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court later this month.
