A Shepparton man who was caught drug driving unlicensed in an unregistered car has received a hefty fine.

Muhammad Basir, 33, of Shepparton, was charged with drug driving, driving unlicensed and driving an unregistered vehicle.

His matter was heard at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in his absence.

Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Anna Hanlon said Basir tested positive for methamphetamines when he was driving an unregistered Nissan while unlicensed on Bourchier St, Shepparton on April 27.

He told police he had consumed ice the day before, and he had bought the car with the registration intact.

He was fined $900 and disqualified from getting a licence for six months.
