An Echuca man has been charged over an alleged Shepparton home invasion, as well as with firearms offences.
Chacain Kennedy, 24, of Echuca, faced Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in a brief filing hearing on Tuesday, October 29.
Mr Kennedy is charged over an alleged home invasion in Shepparton on Monday, October 21.
He is the third person to have been charged over the alleged home invasion.
Police allege Mr Kennedy and other people gained entry to a property on Community St about 5.15am on October 21.
Two occupants of the house were allegedly assaulted.
A 41-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Mr Kennedy is charged with 18 offences, including aggravated home invasion (assault) with a firearm, intentionally causing injury, two counts of assault, theft of a firearm, possessing a traffickable quantity of firearms, two counts of possessing a firearm while a prohibited person and possessing cartridge ammunition.
Mr Kennedy is also charged with three counts of theft of vehicle, theft, burglary, careless driving, disqualified driving, failing to give his name and address after a crash that caused property damage and handling stolen goods.
Police arrested Mr Kennedy after they were called to an alleged hit-and-run collision in Mooroopna where an allegedly stolen Jeep collided with another car on Knight St about 11.30am on Monday, October 28.
Police said the Jeep drove off and was located dumped in bushland off McFarlane Rd a short time later.
Officers cordoned off the area and Mr Kennedy and a 25-year-old Mooroopna woman were arrested after a short search.
The woman was released pending further inquiries.
In court on Tuesday, Mr Kennedy did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
No pleas were entered to any of the charges.
He will next appear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in March next year.
