A woman who had lost her driver’s licence for four years told police she was ‘’going to get breakfast” when she was caught driving by police.

Laticia Lewis, 27, of Yarrawonga, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to driving disqualified and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Luke Lund told the court police pulled Lewis over as she was driving out of a service station in Numurkah Rd, Shepparton, on September 14, 2021.

The Ford Falcon she was driving was unregistered and she had been disqualified from driving for four years by Cobram Magistrates’ Court in January 2020.

When asked by police at the time why she was driving, Lewis told them she was “going to get breakfast”, Sen Constable Lund said.

In fining Lewis $300, magistrate Tara Hartnett noted this offending pre-dated a good behaviour bond Lewis had been placed on and said the fine was lower than it might otherwise have been expected to be for that reason.
