A man has been charged with damaging a police car, shortly after being released on bail.

Ashley William Hurd, 34, formerly of Mooroopna, successfully applied for bail again in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court.

He is charged with damaging a police vehicle and handling stolen goods, among other offences.

Senior Constable Ethan Hamill said Mr Hurd kicked in the passenger door of a black Kia Sorento police car, which left a dent, and kicked the passenger side mirror, pulled and broke it off of the car, and left it hanging by the power cables, after being released on bail on June 6.

After Mr Hurd was arrested and taken to Shepparton Police Station, police say they searched a large black duffle bag and found three Anko men’s silver/blue watches, three pairs of sunglasses, a navy blue Anko cap and five black hooded Anko jumpers they believe are stolen property.

Mr Hurd is also charged with two counts of theft and one count of burglary.

The theft charges include him allegedly stealing a carton of cigarettes from Fairleys IGA Shepparton valued at $313.25, and cigarettes and a pair of sunglasses from a BP service station in Mooroopna valued at $142.

The burglary charge includes him allegedly stealing an air compressor, pressure washer, garden hose and mop bucket among other items from Mooroopna McDonald’s valued at $2540, clothing and watches from Ozmosis Shepparton with an estimated value of $15,000, and bottles of alcohol from BWS Mooroopna valued at $138.

Police did not oppose bail.

Magistrate Simon Zebrowski said Mr Hurd was not an unacceptable risk and granted him bail.

Among Mr Hurd’s bail conditions were that he comply with the Court Integrated Services Program, report to police three times a week, notify police within 24 hours of changes of address, not go to Kmart Shepparton and not be within 200m of BWS Mooroopna or Fairleys IGA Shepparton.

The rest of the charges will be heard at a later date.
