Answering a phone call from the boss has landed a man in court.
Shane Godwin, 54, of Numurkah, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to touching a mobile phone device while driving, driving while suspended and two counts of using an unregistered vehicle.
A police prosecutor told the court Godwin was holding his phone while driving a Ford Ranger that was towing a caravan in Shepparton on July 23, 2024.
His driver’s licence was also suspended due to unpaid fines, and both the car and caravan were unregistered.
Representing himself in court, Godwin said his boss rang him and he told him he’d ring him back.
He said calls normally came through the car, and he didn’t know why one came through his phone.
Magistrate Simon Zebrowski fined Godwin $500 without conviction.
Mr Zebrowski said the fine was mainly for holding his phone while driving.
