Three people died in a plane crash at Tinamba West on Saturday, November 16.
The pilot, 20-year old Luke Smith, and one of the passengers, his 16-year-old younger brother Benny, were from Tongala.
The pair’s cousin, 15-year-old Dusty Daly from Tinamba West, was also a passenger.
All three died at the scene. They were the only occupants onboard.
Emergency services responded to reports of a plane crash in a paddock off Hayfield-Upper Maffra Rd, north-west of Sale, about 5.45pm.
Police were told that the plane was circling the area before it crashed and burst into flames.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the loss of Luke Smith (20), Tongala, his brother Benny Smith (16), Tongala, and their cousin Dusty Daly (15), Tinamba West, on Saturday, November 16,” Tongala family members Alistair Smith, Leonie Smith and Tinamba West family members Amy Daly and Mathew Daly told the Herald Sun.
“This is an incredibly difficult time for our family and we kindly request privacy as we navigate through our grief.
“Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this loss and we ask for your understanding as we focus on supporting one another during this challenging period.
“We are grateful for the love and support from friends, family and the community at large.
“Thank you for your respect and compassion.”
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
