Police investigating causeway bushfire

The cause of a fire in the bush between Shepparton and Mooroopna on Thursday, February 17, is being investigated by police.

CFA District 22 commander Mark Narayan said crews were called to the scene in bushland off Peter Ross-Edwards Causeway at 12.48pm.

Five CFA trucks, three vehicles from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and a helicopter responded to the blaze.

Mr Narayan said the helicopter dropped six loads of water on the blaze, while firefighters from four brigades responded on the ground.

He said the fire was declared under control at 1.35pm and burned about one hectare of bush and scrubland.

Shepparton Detective Acting Sergeant Lance Wiltshire said police were treating the fire as suspicious.
