Police have praised the behaviour of the crowd at Spring Car Nationals in Shepparton on the weekend.

Shepparton police Senior Sergeant Darron Huffer said there were “very few issues” at the event held at the Shepparton Showgrounds from Friday night until Sunday.

“There were some internal squabbles, but nothing of note,” he said.

“The public behaved themselves pretty well.

“I was impressed by the public’s behaviour.”

Sen Sgt Huffer said about 50 extra police were on duty on the weekend, including about 20 who were focusing on public order in town.

He said the police presence was stepped up at the event this year, which he thought helped with crowd behaviour.

However, he also praised those that attended the event for choosing to behave.

“We always like it when the crowd behaves,” Sen Sgt Huffer said.

“The concentration (of police) and making sure we had good police numbers … I think that definitely helped.

“But the public doing the right thing definitely helped too.

“All in all we are pretty happy.

“It’s good for the community, these events, so it’s good when they all go well.”
