Police respond to call from GSSC

Police presence: Shepparton police responded to a call from a GSSC staff member on Wednesday, February 2.

Police conducted a “pro-active patrol” at Greater Shepparton Secondary College on Wednesday, February 2, after a staff member reported the possibility of an altercation between students.

Shepparton Acting Sergeant Karyn Murtagh said police responded to a call about a possible incident between students about 1pm.

However, Act Sgt Murtagh said the officers were not required.

A GSSC spokesperson said Wednesday was the first day all students were on campus together, and the call to police was a “precaution”.

According to the spokesperson, the school’s incident controller had heard about the possibility of a fight between students at lunchtime and that was why the police were called.

“We had half the kids on Monday and half the kids on Tuesday,” the spokesperson said.

“All the kids were on site for the first time today (Wednesday).”
