A vehicle fire in the early hours of Friday, December 20, is being treated as “suspicious” by police.

At 1.05am, emergency services received a call about a car ablaze at Kull Rd, Katandra.

Responding promptly, three fire appliances arrived to tackle the fully involved car fire, which also ignited a small grass fire nearby.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames within 50 minutes of receiving the call.

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit Senior Constable Trevyn Pinto said the vehicle was discovered burning by a member of the public.

While no suspects were seen fleeing the scene, witnesses said they saw an unidentified vehicle departing just before the fire was spotted.

As of Friday morning, there was no evidence to indicate that the burned vehicle was stolen.

Police have yet to reach the registered owner of the car, and the investigation is ongoing.
