Shepparton home gutted by late-night fire

A Shepparton home was destroyed by fire on Sunday, July 7.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Scoresby Ave in Shepparton at 11.17pm after callers to 000 reported a house fully alight.

Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find the single-storey brick house engulfed in flames.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said searches of the building found no-one was inside at the time of the fire.

Multiple crews wore breathing apparatus to battle the blaze, and the scene was deemed under control at 11.48pm.

Police said the home was lived in, but no-one was home at the time.

Shepparton crime investigation unit Detective Senior Constable Sarah Roberts said a police arson chemist attended the scene on Monday morning to conduct an investigation into the fire.

“The fire is still being treated as suspicious at this stage,” she said.
