Stolen car found on fire

A car that was stolen after it broke down at Shepparton East on Tuesday, July 26 was found on fire the following day.

Two CFA crews were called to the car fire on Raak Rd, Shepparton East at 1.22pm on Wednesday, where they found a single vehicle alight with no occupants.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 20 minutes before handing the scene to police.

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Matt Clowes said the grey 2008 Holden Captiva was stolen from the side of the Midland Hwy between 11.30am Tuesday and 10.30am Wednesday.

He said the owner had parked it on the side of the road after experiencing mechanical issues.
