The man who died in a Strathmerton crash on Monday, February 14, has been identified by police.

He was a 60-year-old man from Tasmania.

The man died after his van and a police vehicle collided on the Murray Valley Hwy at the Stokes Rd intersection about noon.

Police said at this early stage there was nothing to indicate the officers were in pursuit of the vehicle, and it was believed they were on patrol as part of their duties.

The two male police officers from Cobram Police Station, a first constable and detective sergeant, were taken to hospital in Melbourne with upper body injuries.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said one of the men, in his 30s, was flown to The Alfred hospital but the hospital confirmed on Sunday that he had been released.

The other man, in his 60s, was initially taken to Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton, but was transferred to The Alfred on Tuesday night.

He was in a stable condition on Sunday.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have investigated the scene to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
