A teenager was allegedly clocked driving at more than 200km/h on a rural road.

Katamatite Police Detective Senior Constable Charles Ryall said police spotted a white BMW sedan driving at 208km/h on Katamatite-Shepparton Rd at Katamatite at about 2.40pm on June 11.

He said the vehicle was near Yabba South Rd when police locked it on a radar.

Due to the speed, police did not chase the car.

Police attempted to stop the BMW on the Goulburn Valley Hwy near Koonoomoo, but were unsuccessful.

Det Sen Constable Ryall said Katamatite police then made inquiries that allowed them to get in contact with the driver.

The driver handed himself into Seymour Police Station later that same day.

He was a learner driver whose licence had been suspended.

An 18-year-old Craigieburn man will be charged on summons with driving at a dangerous speed, failing to stop on police direction and driving while suspended.

He will face Cobram Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
