Three people were taken to Goulburn Valley Health after a single-vehicle crash in Kialla on Melbourne Cup Day afternoon.

Police said at around 4pm on Tuesday, November 5, a white Nissan four-wheel drive travelling south on Doyles Rd unexpectedly left the road and collided with trees to the left side, about 100m south of the Broken River bridge.

Shepparton police Sergeant Rocky Fazzolari said the driver, an 18-year-old man from Diggers Rest, and two 17-year-old female passengers from Kilmore were taken by ambulance to GV Health with minor injuries and for observation.

Victoria Police, SES, Ambulance Victoria and Fire Rescue Victoria attended the scene.

Police said a witness not involved in the crash had provided details about the incident.

Police and VicRoads diverted traffic for around 90 minutes while the scene was cleared.

Sgt Fazzolari said motorists were co-operative in complying with the detours and he praised the passers-by who stopped to help the vehicle’s injured occupants while they waited for paramedics to arrive.

The police investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is urged to contact Shepparton police on 5820 5777.
