Police allege a truck was driven erratically on a major highway in the Goulburn Valley.

A truck driver allegedly caused havoc on a main highway in the Goulburn Valley on Friday, May 24, with multiple calls made to police about allegedly erratic driving.

Shepparton police Sergeant Matthew Walker said the truck was stopped by police after it had allegedly driven on the wrong side of the Goulburn Valley Hwy near the Shepparton Trotting Track at Kialla about 5.40pm.

He said the heavy rigid truck — which was towing a trailer with an excavator on it — was travelling northbound towards Shepparton, but was allegedly driving in the southbound lane.

Sgt Walker said police received several calls from other motorists about allegedly erratic driving as the truck made its way down the Goulburn Valley Fwy and Goulburn Valley Hwy between 4.30pm and when it was stopped by police.

Police investigations into the driving are ongoing.

The man driving the truck is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Shepparton police would like to hear from anyone who may have been impacted by any erratic truck driving, or who witnessed any of it.
