A Shepparton woman who struck a 21-year-old with a glass bottle at a bar has been ordered to complete 80 hours of community work.

Tyesha McGee, 26, pleaded guilty at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to recklessly causing injury.

The victim received three stitches for a five-centimetre cut to her scalp after the incident at Fryers St venue Skky Bistro and Party Bar, at 1am on December 12, 2021.

Magistrate David Faram said the offending was “inexplicable”.

Solicitor Emma King told the court McGee had consumed six or seven premixed drinks on the night before the “out of character” incident.

She said McGee was a mother-of-three, including a nine-month-old, and was on a long path to rehabilitation from drug use.

Ms King submitted a substantial fine could be appropriate, but Mr Faram said he felt fining McGee would impact her young child.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Luke Lund told the court McGee had seen her friend in an argument with the victim when she approached them, hitting the victim in the head with the bottle of premixed alcohol she was holding.

The court heard McGee had a criminal history relating to drugs and driving offences, and had experienced a disrupted childhood.

McGee was placed on a community corrections order and required to complete community work.
