Deck the tables (and halls)

Every Christmas, photos are splashed in magazines, on TV and online of the most beautiful and well-thought-out table settings imaginable.

The colours all match, there is a clear theme and everything is placed perfectly.

But how do you get your table to look like the ones in the media?

Michelle Slot, the head stylist at Mulberry Lane Property Styling, says the most important rule to follow when styling your table for Christmas is making sure it all flows.

From the wreath on the door, to the presents under the tree, to the dining table, you want there to be a distinct theme throughout.

And so, when designing your table, this should be considered.

“The foundation in setting a table is through the tablecloth,” Michelle said.

“The material that you choose — whether that is linen, striped, floral or just plain white — is the first step and the most essential element when building up and tying in the look.”

Once you have decided on the tablecloth, it’s important to look at how you want to finish off the look.

Michelle said the plates, crockery, utensils, napkins, glasses and the centrepieces should include some greenery to soften the look, and the colour of bonbons should tie into the presents that are under the tree.

All of these are great ways to make your home feel as warm and as inviting as possible this Christmas.
