One of Finley’s favourite sons was in the limelight at the weekend, as AFL export Tom Hawkins secured his third premiership.

Taking to the MCG on the last Saturday in September, Hawkins did what he so often does for the Cats, booting three goals to help his side to a mammoth 20.13 (133) to 8.4 (52) grand final win over Sydney.

The convincing victory started in the first term, with Hawkins kicking two majors to help his side build a 35-point quarter-time lead.

Often crucial to who wins a grand final, Geelong’s quick start set it up to hoist the premiership and, despite inaccurate kicking towards the end of the game, Hawkins’ role cannot be understated.

Adding to his 2009 and 2011 premierships at the club, Hawkins, 34, continues to be a key cog in the hoops’ wheel.

While the men battled it out on Saturday afternoon, the Cats’ AFLW side was equally as dominant on Thursday night.

Welcoming St Kilda to GMHBA Stadium, the Cats produced a well-rounded 50-point win.

Featuring three Goulburn Valley exports, a massive 27-disposal performance from Benalla’s Becky Webster headlined the clash.

Joining forces with Kyabram’s Julia Crockett-Grills and Echuca’s Annabel Johnson, Webster played a key role in the statement win.

Another side producing an impressive win in round five was Richmond, as the Tigers downed previously undefeated Brisbane by four points.

Shepparton’s Grace Egan did plenty to help her teammates get across the line, playing her role with 11 disposals and three tackles.

Fellow Shepparton export Angela Foley impressed with 16 disposals and four marks as her Port Adelaide side fell to Gold Coast.

Elsewhere Mansfield’s Bonnie Toogood featured for Essendon as the Bombers suffered defeat to Collingwood, Benalla’s Sophia McCarthy played for North Melbourne as it downed Western Bulldogs and Seymour’s Sophie Locke put in a good shift as Hawthorn beat Sydney in a thriller.
