Tatura’s own Michael Archer has claimed the most wickets in the fourth edition of Goulburn Valley Bush Bash League.
The dynamic leg-spinner took 12 wickets across four matches, five more than next-best Liam Smith, to help his side reach the grand final.
And, while Archer’s side, Hurley’s Hotel Hounds, wasn’t able to win the final, Archer was able to continue his hot form as he finished with 2-17 from four overs.
Speaking after the game Archer was modest in acknowledging his achievements.
“Obviously it’s always good to take some wickets,” he said.
“T20 cricket can be sort of a raffle. You’ve just sort of gotta get it down the other end and hope for the best of times.
“It’s nice to be lucky enough for the opposition to not get a hold of me and for me to get a few poles.”
This season, Archer has been playing cricket for Carlton in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition in Melbourne.
There he has also enjoyed a successful season taking 23 wickets at an average of 16.52.
Despite now living in Melbourne, Archer enjoys returning home to partake in high-quality regional cricket tournaments such as the GVBBL.
“I’ve been playing it (GVBBL) since the start from when I was at Tat to now when I am playing in Melbourne and travelling back for it,” he says.
“I think today shows that it is a really good standard of cricket and you can get the best players from the surrounding competitions involved, plus a few extras. It’s really good.”
