Ivan Lister isn’t a dreamer, but he is hopeful that a recent purchase can continue his rich vein of form.
The Ardmona-based trainer, fresh off his recent win at Swan Hill with Burning The Clock, has added Cranach Dreaming to his small stable this spring.
Lister bought the six-year-old mare after having followed her progress in recent months.
The lightly-raced daughter of Lucas Cranach has raced 19 times for one win and three placings.
Lister explained why he was keen to bring the former Rob Agnew-trained stayer down south from NSW.
You see, Lister knows a thing or two about Lucas Cranach offspring.
He trains Court Painter, an eight-year-old gelding, who he bought off the late trainer Daryl Archard at the end of 2021.
“She’s only won in the wet and what really impressed me was how she made up a lot of ground at Tuncurry in her last start up north,” Lister said.
“She’s a bit of a fizzy horse to train, she hasn’t got the temperament like Burning The Clock does, but we’ll train her like Court Painter.”
Cranach Dreaming made her Victorian debut at the weekend.
Lister sent his stable’s newest runner to the Tatura Cup Day meeting where she competed in race six, the Kane Lovell Cup 0-58 Handicap.
A ninth-placed finish did not deter Lister, with the experienced trainer keen on what he saw on Saturday.
“She only knows how to go the other way at the moment,” Lister said tongue in cheek, pointing to Victoria’s anti-clockwise track.
“We had her in at Yea last weekend, but that was cancelled, so we sent her to Tatura ... I was really happy with how she hit the line.
“I’m not worried about stepping her up in trip, I was happy enough, you can tell that she wants the distance.”
