Corowa Civic Bowls

On Wednesday, a good turnout of bowlers finished their games just in time as a shower of rain made us all run for the clubhouse where it was most cosy waiting for the winners to be announced.

Winners – Ian Lewis and Shane Rosenow. Runners-up – Paul Hickey and Jeff Smith.

In very warm conditions on Saturday many bowlers took to the greens, enjoying the lovely sunshine.

On Sunday morning the first rounds of the Mixed Pairs Handicap Consistency got under way in cloudy conditions.

Denise Mihan and Ray Ager defeated Lynne Pyke and Clint Snow, Maree Lewis and Travis McDonald defeated Eileen Ide and Ian Lewis, Estelle Hollingsworth and Brian Shipcott defeated Jan Wandel-Webber and Shane Rosenow, Margaret Watson and Lynton Ford defeated Annette Norman and John Dalgleish.

More rounds will take place during the next few weeks.

Entries are still being taken by Pam Tobias, Col Hendren and Annette Norman for the Gwen Tait Tournament which will take place on Thursday September 19, 2024

The club wishes to thank all the volunteers—the Greens Staff, Bar Staff, Catering people, and Match Committee—who did tremendous work last weekend for the Mixed Pairs Tournament.

If you are available to play in our first practice match for the pennant this season on Saturday, September 7th, please add your name to the list on the notice board in the Clubhouse.

The Men’s and Ladies Club Pairs are scheduled for Sunday, 22nd September, commencing at 9.30am.

Corowa RSL Bowls Club

With some early "Spring” like conditions, Social Bowls numbers have been steadily increasing.

Eighteen players enjoyed the bowling greens and the facilities within Club Corowa

Six teams of Triples and the winners were Ketch, Brian Houlihan and Peter Mills 2W +7

Runners Up, Ken Widdison, Susie Swift and Jenny Lawrence 1W 1L +7.

Open Jackpot Saturday Pairs, August 21.

Twenty-four players and 23 degrees, the Jackpot was not won.

Saturday, August 31, is the last weekend of the "Jackpot", and it must be won.

Prize money carries over at $270 plus the allocated green fee.

Members, please note: Saturday Jackpot Pairs will commence at 9.30am, and names must be entered by 8.45am.

The earlier start is to enable our members to attend Les Pilfoot "Memorial Wake" at the Howlong Golf Club from 12.30pm.

Social Bowls Wednesday, August 28, commences with Club Corowa Brunch followed by bowls at 1pm.

September 8, RSL Bowls Club General Meeting at 10.30am, followed by nibbles in Ms Birdies.

Opening Day Memorial Day will follow; this is a uniform event, please.

Our Singles Champions, Anne Summerill and Ken Widdison, will put the first bowl down to open the season.

The September 14th and 15th Men’s Federation Triples will be played. Club Corowa and Corowa Bakery sponsor the tournament.

Our organisers will require volunteers this weekend if you can assist, contact the General Committee, please.

September 21, Barooga Challenge, Pennant Practice, see the noticeboard for further information. This is also a uniform event.

Club Championship entry sheets are available for members to enter events.

The first Championship is Minor Singles on October 13; this is open to all players who have not won a Club Singles Championship. Please check the closing date.

Ovens and Murray District Pennant

Weekend Pennant commences October 12 and Midweek Pennant commences October 15.

Corowa Indoor Carpet Bowls

The internal comps continue with wins in the Club Championship Singles for Joe Carnivale and Gloria McCluskey and for Lesley Crough in the Minors. Our Social winners on 17 and 16 (33) were Anne Smith, Angela Clapton, and Gloria McCluskey. The runners-up on 18 and 3 (31) were Peter Manning, Joe Wilson, and Joan Adams.

Tuesday saw us with another tie-up for first place with the winners on 15 and 17 (32), and on countback, they were Gloria McCluskey, Tony Coppolino, and Joe Wilson. And with 16 and 16 (32) the runners-up were Chris Hendry, Ellen Buckley, and Peter Manning.

Thursday winners on 17 and 16 (33) were Lesley Crough, Angela Clapton, Joan Catlin, and Ian Day. With the runners-up on 16 and 15 (31) being the team of Jan Webber, Doreen Pleming, and Ellen Buckley.
