Laurie Way and Ken Widdison opened the Corowa RSL Bowls bowling season for 2024/25.

Sunday, September 8 the bowls season was officially opened.

The General Meeting was well attended, nibbles were enjoyed at the bowls veranda green side.

In the absence of President Ray McLarty, Keith Mills opened the season after a minute's silence for all past members.

Singles Champions

Ken Widdison, and Laurie Way (in the absence of Anne Summerill) put the first bowl down to open season.

Twenty-eight bowlers took to the greens to play triples.

Sam Nixon celebrated his 80th birthday at the RSL Bowls Club.

Wednesday Social Bowls - September 4.

Again, the Spring conditions were favourable for bowls.

Twenty-two players played two games of ten ends.

Winners were Peter Mills and Raz +18.

Runners Up, Jenny Petrie and Ketch +16.

The RSL Bowls Club was privileged to provide the venue for Sam Nixon's 80th birthday on Saturday, September 7.

Sam's family, friends and bowls friends celebrated with style.

The family must be congratulated on providing such a festive day for Sam.

After lunch, a Social Barefoot Bowls game was played.

Sam Nixon is a much-respected member of our bowls club, congratulations Sam.

Corowa Civic Bowls Club Pairs Winner - Eileen Ide and Maree Lewis.

A great turn out of 34 players turned up for social on Wednesday, a brilliant day weather wise.

Pairs winners – Maree Lewis and Eileen Ide.

Runners up – Pam Tobias and Denise Mihan. Triple winners – Paul Hickey, Maureen Hutson and Steve Rodway.

On Saturday there was a pennant practice match against Club Mulwala with a good turn out of players from both sides.

The day was played in beautiful sunshine and no wind. A great day to get back into the swing of pennant.

Thank you, Club Mulwala for participating in this practice leading up to the start of the season.

There will be another practice match against Chiltern Bowling Club at Chiltern on Saturday, September 21. Add your name to sheet on noticeboard if you can attend.

On Tuesday, September 24 the club will be entertaining a group of bowlers from the Geelong region, this will be a practise for Midweek Pennant.

There won’t be any social bowls organised for the following day.

The first round will be on Sunday, September 22 commencing at 9.30am, place your team on the entry sheet on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.

On Thursday afternoons there is bowls practice for pennant at 4pm.

Corowa Indoor Carpet Bowls

Sunday morning saw a win for Glenda Willett in the Minor Singles. Afternoon social winners on 18 and 18 (36) were Joan Catlin, Ines Dowsey, and Wayne Dowsey.

Runners-up on 17 and 4 (21) being Merylyn Milthorpe, Joe Carnivale, Margret Watson. And Chris Hendry.

Tuesday’s winners on 15 and 17 (32) were Jan Webber, and Betty Clancy. Runners-up on 16 and 10 (26) being Kerry Whalley, Chris Hendry, and Gwen Mills.

On Thursday the winners on 15 and 17 (32) and on countback were: Peter Manning, Joe Wilson, and Dawn Sander.

Runners-up on 16 and 16 (32) being Gwen Mills, Merylyn Milthorpe, Anne Smith, and Helen Bartel.
