Tungamah Bowls Club

Midweek Pennant – October 22 - welcomed newcomers to O & M this season, Commercial Club, NSW.

This match was played in an excellent manner and Tunga welcome their inclusion to the competition, even though they defeated Tunga 61 to 56 shots.

Tunga got 2 points but were competitive.

Saturday B1s: were at home to Myrtleford and got up 66 to 61 shots, for their first victory of this new season.

A welcome 12 points were achieved so well done to all players. Next travel to Moyhu who are coming off a big win last week. Good bowling to all selected.

Saturday A3s: Another bus trip but this was achieved at a more normal pace. Great day out for this team also as they defeated Bright on their own green 75 to 71 shots, collecting 14 points with two rinks getting up.

A challenging day says it all. At home to Swanpool on Saturday, they are in a rebuilding phase with several new younger players joining their club.

Building fund massive raffle: This fundraiser has just got underway so expect to be approached by a Tungamah Bowler hoping you will oblige and purchase a $20 ticket from them.

First prize $5000, 3 nights accommodation at Mulwala Water Ski Club, 60 litre car fridge/freezer, STHIL chainsaw, case and esky, Weber BBQ, $100 Bi Rite voucher plus minor prizes.

Thursday saw the club provided 100 Car Club enthusiasts with an 8am breakfast.

Congratulations to all involved with this morning activity they were a pleasure to deal with and an enjoyable profitable experience for the club.

All these activities aid in the fundraising to provide a new clubhouse which will benefit current members and future generations.

Saturday December 14 - Community Christmas Party: Locals are invited to join bowlers for an early Christmas practise after bowls. Come and continue the Thursday night social format.

ClubMulwala Bowls

Midweek Pennant - Three teams played on Tuesday with two of the teams coming home with a win.

A2s beating St. James with a great win. Club Mulwala 81 shots, points 14; St. James. Shots 39, points 0.

The A2s sitting at the top of the ladder. Looking forward to playing Myrtleford next game. A3s unfortunately just lost to Corowa RSL. Club Mulwala 48 shots, points 1 to Corowa RSL Shots 61, points 13.

B2s had a fantastic win against Wang/ Wareena. ClubMulwala Shots 62, points 12 points to Wang/ Wareena Shots 42, points 2.

Happily sitting 3rd on the ladder. Playing against local rivals Yarrawonga next game.

Weekend Pennant - Two teams played on Saturday and both teams had great wins.

A4s played Benalla and had a fantastic win, taking home a win on all rinks. Now sitting second on the ladder with the best percentage. Club Mulwala Shots 100, point 18, Benalla Shots 59, points 0.

Club Mulwala is excited to play against Beechworth at home this Saturday.

B2s played at St. James. A wonderful result, now sitting top of the ladder. A great day of bowls, winning all rinks. Club Mulwala Shot 74, points 14. St. James Shots 50, points 0. Happily sitting on top of the ladder. Looking forward to playing Beechworth next weekend at home.

The club looks forward to witnessing two fantastic games at home.

21UP Championship - The Ladies semi-final between Kay Smith and Nicole McPherson was held early in the week. The winner to play Mel Garth in the Grand Final.

Grand Finalists for 21UP men’s section are Robo Lockwood and Mel Beer. Good luck to all players. It is wonderful to see such talent in the club battling out the tournament in the finals.

Club Championships - A sheet is on the club board for players to add their names to compete in the Club Championships. The competition begins early November.

The Ladies and Men’s winners of this will go onto represent ClubMulwala Bowls at the Ovens and Murray League Championships.

Pennant Training - Training is held each Thursday from 2pm. All Pennant Players are urged to attend. This is a great opportunity to seek advice and refine your bowling skills, Geoff Club Mulwala’s coach is available at the session for advice and skill training. Another great training session was held last Thursday.

Both greens full of players. A wonderful sight to see.

Saturday Morning Competition - During the Pennant season a bowls game is held each Saturday morning from 9.30am. This ensures every player who has made the commitment to playing in the Pennant season will get a game every week.

Geoff Mitchell, the clubs coach, is running the Saturday morning matches at Club Mulwala, the competition is also ideal for bowlers who do not want to travel to play, or do not like playing bowls on a hot Saturday afternoon.

Winning players take home Club Mulwala vouchers and cash. The matches are great opportunity for the clubs’ players to increase their skills and hopefully impress the selection committee.

Please have your name on the players list by Friday afternoon to ensure a game.

Pennant - WHAT A WEEK! Yarrawonga had a ripper. A clean sweep...winning all divisions both mid-week and weekend … apparently that calls for Presidents drinks Mr Tait?

Midweek - A1s travelled to Kiewa and had a convincing win 100/31 with the best rink skipped by Jason McCloy 44/8.

A4s hosted Myrtleford in a good hit out, M Crawfords rink 25/13.

B2s also at home vs Corowa civic winning 82/42 with club stalwart K McQualter aka ‘Jock’ skipping a resounding 32/11 win proving old bowlers can still match it with the best of them!

Weekend - A1s again travelled to Kiewa securing a comfortable win 91/64 with J McCloy’s rink again proving too strong with a 38/7 victory and G Sanders rink also performing well 25/16.

All 3 remaining divisions played at home with A4s defeating Mansfield 85/63; R Butlers crew getting the job done at 28/13.

B1 had a great win against Rutherglen with a resounding 101/26 and T Dodds skipping for a 43/8 victory...bet there were a few hats off and kisses from Tommy …must have got the quaddie!

B2s had a tight contest against Beechworth getting the win 62/53 with R Sheridan s rink proving the difference at 22/14.

An exceptional week for the Waterbaggers and well done. Clean sweeps across both days don’t happen very often so enjoy the week, but it’s important to not get complacent or cocky ..it’s 1 week in a very long season ..let’s keep the momentum going into this week.

Monday 2/4/2 - 24 bowlers took to the green with Les Wilson and Greg Fisher claiming the cash. Mick Reilly and Peter Young were runners up and the jackpot was unclaimed.

Wed and Over 60s – No games this week

Ladies 21 up Club Championship - A belated congratulations to Di Day and Claire Sanders who contested the ladies 21 up 2 weeks ago. Claire Sanders emerged the victor in a game played with good grace and sportsmanship. Well done ladies and congratulations Claire on your win in your first year with the club.

Sponsors Shield - The Inaugural Sponsorship Shield takes place this Wed, Oct 30 from 5pm -8.30pm.

Who will be the business that claims the very first honours? In a hotly contested field the anticipation is excruciating (channelling my inner Bruce McAvaney). Come and support them and the club. Bar opens 5pm, sausage sizzle, music and giveaways.

Barefoot Bowls - The ever popular Bare Foot Bowls season starts this Thursday, October 31. BBQ at 6pm, bowls 6.30 pm. $5 bar open, cash prizes. Sheet outside main entrance of club.

Good bowling and good health to all with a special get well to John Wenzel who had a fall Saturday after bowls and has fractured a bone in the spine. Hope it’s not too severe and you recover quickly!

Mid-week Pennant

The A1s, in their first outing of the season which was a round 2 match, played host to Corowa RSL which proved to be something of a tough assignment considering the result.

YMGCR 47 shots and 2 points to Corowa RSL 83 shots and 12 points. Winning with a solid result for the Golf Club were Rhonda Irvine (L), Ray Brown (2), Greg Green (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S), who overcome their opponents 24 shots to Corowa RSL 18 shots.

With a first-round game to complete, due to the match being postponed with YMGCR players away on state duty, the A1s had to shape up for a second game in three days when they undertook the journey to Kiewa last Thursday, October 24.

After the last end was completed, it was Kiewa 64 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 48 shots and 2 points.

After a slowish start the rink of Ian Febey (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Greg Green (3), and Ray Irvine managed to win well 22 shots to Kiewa 15 shots.

This rink win secured a valuable 2 points for the A1s who find themselves in 7th place on the ladder and next game host Yarrawonga at the Golf Club.

The A2s hosted Myrtleford in their second game for the season and YMGCR had a solid home win, YMGCR 68 shots and 12 points to Myrtleford 59 shots and 2 points.

This win sees the A2s in 6th place on the ladder. Having a great rink win were, Chris Horne (L), Vicki Withers (2), Marcia McGrillen (3), and Ian Keat (S), who won 26 shots to Myrtleford 17 shots.

Also winning well were, Greg Fisher (L), Judy Leeson (2), Peter Lidgerwood (3), and Allan Goudge (S), who won 23 shots to 17 shots. The A2s next play St. James at the Golf Club.

Wednesday Social Bowls

Last Wednesday saw 20 players participate in the weekly game of social bowls. The winners were Barb Tennyson and Neville Coleman who shared first prize of $80 and a drink card each.

The Runners Up prize went to the team of Bob Brokenshire and Trevor Milne. The first lucky number prize of $20 went to Peter Lidgerwood and the second lucky number prize of $10 went to Judy Leeson.

Weekend Pennant

The A1s travelled to Myrtleford, where many close games have been fought out over the last couple of years. This was a terrific away win for YMGCR which saw the final score YMGCR 88 shots and 16 points to Myrtleford 76 shots and 2 points.

Cruising to the finish line was the rink of Rhonda Irvine (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Greg Green (3), and Julian Jones (S), who won 29 shots to Myrtleford 13 shots.

Also winning in fine style was the rink of Chris Horne (L), Bill Jenkins (2), Ian Keat (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S), who won 26 shots to Myrtleford 19 shots.

Continuing their winning way was the rink of Ian Febey (L), Ray Brown (2), Michael Vaughan (3), and Gary Presnell (S), who secured 2 points, winning 18 shots to Myrtleford 14 points.

The A1s are in 4th place on the ladder and next week travel to Corowa RSL.

The A3s undertook the journey to Benalla, and it was the home side who won the day; Benalla 83 shots and 15 points to YMGCR 73 shots and 3 points.

Winning for the visitors was the rink of Doug Wheeler (L), Greg Fisher (2), Jan Morton (3), and Liliana Borwick (S), who won 20 shots to Benalla 12 shots.

Securing a draw, and a valuable point for the Golf Club were Marie Morffew (L), Tony Durkin (2), Ian Morffew (3), and Bob Evans (S), who drew with their opponents 20 shots apiece.

The A3s are in 6th place and next week play Bright at home.

The A5s played host to Dederang and it was a clean sweep for the visitors, YMGCR 31 shots and 0 points to Dederang 71 shots and 14 points.

Working hard for YMGCR was the rink of Sue Evans (L), Barb Tennyson (2), Keith Eade (3), and Noel Millar (S), who stayed in touch with their opponents but went down 10 shots to Dederang 18 shots.

The A5s are in 6th place and next week entertain Bright at home.

Club competitions

The match committees advise that the draws are up for both the ladies and men’s club singles and the mixed pairs.
