Avenel Bowls Club

Midweek pennant

Division six, Avenel 2-35 lt Mooroopna White 12-42

Mark Morse, Moiann Papageorgiou, Nyoli Bell and Marion Gittus (s) won the lead on the fourth end and were never headed as they bowled their way to a solid 23-13 win.

Losing six ends mid-game did the damage for Marg Harrison, Graeme Toy, Ron Harrison and Glen Bell (s), who went down 12-29.

Avenel is fourth on the ladder and plays top team Colbinabbin next week.

Division three, Avenel 2-57 lt Alexandra 14-76

Shots up on the end wins were low, but the number of ends won was what counted as Pam Pedder, Graham Lewis, Noel Slater and Geoff Hateley (s) won 23-16 after winning 15 ends.

A close game for Rusty Schwab, Howard Geldard, Dennis McGregor and Spud Furletti (s), which came down to the last end. Unfortunately for Avenel, Alexandra prevailed, winning 23-21.

Some days you’ve got it, other days not so. It was the latter for Ruth King, Fay Hateley, Kate Donovan and Grace Kenworthy (s), as they lost their game 13-37.

Avenel remains on top of the ladder and plays Mooroopna Golf away in round eight.

Weekend pennant

Division three, Avenel 4-79 lt Rushworth 14-84

Nyoli Bell, Noel Slater, Brett McDonald and Geoff Hateley (s) had a three-shot lead at the break and came home with grit and determination to win by 10 shots, 22-12.

Pam Pedder, Donna Rowley, James Wall and Jake Wall (s) had a terrific first half and therefore had enough runs on the board to survive a late challenge by Rushworth, winning 25-17.

Ruth King, Fay Hateley, Kate Donovan and Grace Kenworthy (s) were three up on the 17th end when Rushworth won seven of the last eight ends to claim the win, 28-19.

Rusty Schwab, Graham Lewis, Dennis McGregor and Spud Furletti (s) had a 14-shot loss against an accurate Rushworth rink, 13-27.

Avenel remains seventh on the ladder and plays away against Mooroopna next Saturday.

Division seven, Avenel 0-24 lt Nagambie 14-61

Moiann Papageorgiou, Kyle Pedder, Ross Sinclair and Marion Gittus (s) led for most of the first half, but Nagambie scored a five and a four late in the game which sealed Avenel’s fate, losing 15-22.

Mark Morse, Norm Billingsley, Graeme Toy and Glen Bell (s) were up against an in-form Nagambie foursome and were no match for the seasoned rink, losing 9-39.

Avenel is sixth on the ladder and plays Seymour next Saturday.
