Sometimes the best of efforts is not enough.

Barooga’s footy players will no doubt be feeling that sentiment, with both the seniors’ men, women and youth girls all facing defeat on the weekend.

The Barooga senior men’s team faced fellow NSW side Finley.

The game was a tough one from the start with Finely finishing the first quarter five points ahead of Barooga, 14-9. By half-time it had escalated to 34 to 17.

However, it isn’t over until it’s over. And Barooga was determined to keep on fighting to the end.

Finley secured a 26-point lead by the end of the third quarter before it was all done and dusted by match end, with Finley victorious 64-33.

Finley’s best players were Luke Moore, Jesse White, Mitchell Carson, Bailey Burke, Mark Whiley and Angus Robertson.

Meanwhile, Barooga’s best players were Nicholas Gooch, Angus Cameron, Kris Bextream, Thomas Barker, Callum Leighton Daly and Charlie Ingham.

Barooga’s Riley Gow scored three of the four goals for the Barooga side.

Round five of the Northern Country Women’s League saw both the Barooga women’s and Barooga youth girls team face off against Shepparton United.

However, despite playing at home, Barooga was unable to get on top of their southern opponents with the Barooga women’s team falling 57-9, while the youth girls fell 70-8.

Despite the defeat, invaluable experience was no doubt gained, as the Barooga women, who are playing their first ever season, start to lay the groundwork for years to come.
