Barooga Sports Bowls Club notes

It was a big week on the greens at Barooga Sports Bowls Club. Photo by Rodney Braithwaite

The jackpot went off last week at Keith's Friday social bowls day when Barry Johnson and Billy Hoog won the $283.70 between them.

The jackpot has now reset and is worth $66.00 this week. Not as much as these two won but still nice to win. It will climb each week until some lucky two win.

Winners of Keith’s Friday were Geoff Brentnall and Peter Lihou with 19 shots up. Runners-up, with a good score of 18 shots up, were Carol Cox and Jeff Nisbet.

Archie Ellis and Carol Wigg won best first game with plus 4 and Fred Pinnuck and Quentin Pettit won best second game with plus 8.

On Saturday we had an intra club practice match where 40 bowlers attended and had a good hit-out.

Next Saturday is another practice against Corowa starting 9.30am for 10am, followed by lunch. Names need to be down to enable our selectors to choose teams.

The following week, but on a Sunday, will be a game against East Shepparton, so get your names down for this game also.

On Tuesday, September 24, there is a practice game for the midweek bowlers against Yarrawonga Town.

So, all midweek bowlers get your name down for this, a few players are still required for this match. Teams for all these games will be announced on ‘Team app’ once selected.

On Tuesday, September 17, our greens are due to be sprayed so will be unavailable for play that day. Wednesday will again be practice day, so come along at 1pm and join in the practice routines set by our coach.

This coming season you will notice that we have installed a new drinking fountain on the eastern side of the club house and some misting fans for when it gets hot. All improvements to assist our members.

Lastly, don’t forget to write up, on the white board inside the clubhouse, any matches that you may have arranged to be played for club events.

This assists the ground staff to ensure all is in order for your game. If anybody is available to assist John in the maintenance of the greens, John would be pleased to hear from you.
