Barooga hosted Nagambie in their Northern Country Women’s League round-seven clash.
In a game that ebbed and flowed, the Hawks clinched a narrow victory, 3.4.22 to 3.2.20.
The win looked far from assured early, with the Lakers leading by 13 points at the first break.
The second quarter was also tough for Barooga, scoring only one point while their opponents added a third goal to lead 3.2.20 to 0.2.2 at half-time.
However, the Hawks were determined to fight on.
In the third quarter, the Murray River side rallied, kicking two goals while holding Nagambie scoreless to cut the margin to four points going into the final term.
The fourth quarter was an arm wrestle, with neither side dominating.
The Hawks’ efforts were rewarded with the winning goal, enough for a two-point win.
Barooga’s best players were Miliana Naicori, Tameisha Kelly, Sheree Bramich, Tiarna Pitt, Sasha Parish and Maree Stephenson.
Nagambie’s best were Hannah Cotter, Lucy Dawe, Emily Chapman, Jessica Dawson, Elyse Lambert and Shelley Houston.
While the senior women’s game was close, the youth girls’ clash was not, with Barooga dominating Moama 7.10.52 to 1.2.8.
Barooga kicked a goal in each of the first two quarters to lead 2.5.17 to 0.2.2 at the main break.
The Hawks extended the margin to four goals at three-quarter time, before a three-goal final term secured the 44-point victory.
Barooga’s Tamika Muller, Madison Knight, Tylah Trenerry, Remmi Warldaw, Chaye Saunders and Taylor Waldron were their side’s best players.
Moama’s best were Madeline Williams, Charlie Martin, Bree Church, Katie Shanon, Emma Steenbuck and Shaylah Olsson.
