Another Kyle Mueller batting masterclass has lifted Kyabram into second place on Cricket Shepparton’s Haisman Shield ladder after round eight was completed on Saturday.

Resuming at 4-112 chasing Waaia’s moderate first innings score of 126, Mueller propelled Kyabram to a final first innings declared score of 7-268 off 67.2 overs with an unbeaten 150 after resuming the second day’s play at 46 not out.

Mueller faced 163 balls and hit nine fours and six massive sixes and shared a matchwinning stand of 55 for the fifth wicket with Ethan Hart who made a defiant 16 off 60 balls.

Waaia’s quick bowler Jesse Trower, a teammate of Mueller’s in the Victorian team for the National Country Cricket Championships in the Barossa Valley in early January, was the pick of the home team bowlers with his 27 overs producing four wickets at a cost of 81 runs.

Mueller’s 150 took his tally for the season to 597 runs and with three unbeaten knocks in this tally boasts a current average of 131.27.

Kyabram now faces top team Tatura in a much anticipated one-dayer this Saturday at Kyabram before a break for the festive season.

Tatura is enjoying a good year and is coming off a three-run win over another flag hopeful Numurkah last Saturday.

X Kyabram’s B-grade side suffered a narrow loss to Waaia in a one-dayer at Kyabram on Saturday.

In Kyabram’s innings of 7-174 opener Jason Leocata was the mainstay with a fighting knock of 71 off 100 deliveries, which included 11 boundaries.

He got most support from fellow opener Dylan Lopez and skipper Jason Parsons (21).

Waaia replied with 6-175 off 34.1 overs with Seb Moore’s half century and Connor Brown’s unbeaten 45 bringing off the win for the visitors.
