Echuca captain Taylor Beard cemented his spot as one of the greats of Goulburn Murray Cricket by taking out the 2021-22 Graham Turner Cricketer of the Year award.
Beard capped a phenomenal McMahon Shield season with his second straight player of the season accolade, and a remarkable fifth overall for the champion all-rounder.
Beard shared last season’s award with Echuca South’s Clayton Holmes, but was a clear winner at the competition’s presentation night last week.
The Echuca talisman smashed 523 runs at an average of 74.41, and claimed 31 wickets at 7.94.
Within those eye-watering stats are four five-wicket hauls, five half-centuries and best stats of 117 not out against Moama and match figures of 10-55 in a two-day game against Cooma.
Beard adds the 2021-22 accolade, now known as the Graham Turner Medal, to his league medals attained in 2020-21, 2015-16, 2013-14, and 2012-13.
“I’ve had a bit of a roller-coaster 24 months,” Beard said.
“Coming back and playing cricket has been a really good support for me, so I would like to thank Echuca for taking me in with open arms and supporting me when I needed it most.”
Beard also paid tribute to the support of his family, including father Max who was in the crowd.
Goulburn Murray Cricket also anointed its newest life member, with Moama Cricket Club stalwart and league board member Kirk Teasdale recognised for his expansive role in the region’s cricket game, on and off the field.
