Benalla district athletes shine at Ovens and King awards night

Sam Cox was named in the Ovens and King team of the year for 2024.

Six of the Benalla district’s best athletes have been recognised for their excellent seasons at the Ovens and King Football Netball League’s best-and-fairest night.

The ceremony was held at the Gateway Hotel in Wangaratta, and two footballers and two netballers from Goorambat, as well as one footballer and one netballer from Benalla All-Blacks, walked away with trophies.

For the Bats, Brush Haebich and Jamie Dunne were named in the league’s team of the year, with Dunne narrowly missing out on the league’s best-and-fairest award.

On the netball court in C-grade, Charli Button was named joint league best-and-fairest and Poppy Broomhall won most valuable player.

For the Panthers, Sam Cox made the league’s team of the year and Georgia Spencer was awarded the A-grade netball player of the year award.
